Are you still on the prowl for water tanks? If you want to start saving water now before it is too late, installing a storage tank would be a good move. When you are already in the process of shopping for your water tank, you will also need to choose a certain material for your tank. Your choices would be steel, wood, metal, concrete, fiberglass, and plastic. This is when you should educate yourself more about each type of material.
Plastic storage tanks have had some negative criticisms before due to the declaration of US FDA about plastic being a food contact substance. Being such, it is like stating that plastic can contaminate the food that comes in contact with the material which is something bad. However, plastic is really not that bad.
Moreover, plastic is one of the most commonly used materials in many items and not only for storage tanks. The warning from US FDA has slowly taken toll but the growth of the use of the plastic has already grown so big in all those years of its rampant use.
Plastics are not really that harmful although it is true that there are certain raw materials used to make plastic that are quite threatening. One thing for sure that should be avoided is plastic #7. This is the type of plastic that has BPA or bisphenol-A. This is said to imitate the characteristics of estrogen which makes it dangerous for uterus and babies.
With the studies on plastics taken into account, this particular material is quite safe. Just make sure that water stored in the tank should not remain very long inside the tank and avoid plastic #7.
